TESCOR DESIGNS PORTABLE CLIMATIC TEST CHAMBER
FOR WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, NEW MEXICO

Warminster, PA, December 2000 – Tescor, Inc. has designed and manufactured a trailer-mounted Climatic Test Chamber for the White Sands Missile Range, NM which is engineered to withstand extremely high and low temperature environments year round, unprotected, in a high desert climate.

The Climatic Test Chamber consists of an insulated test chamber, (ITC) conditioning equipment skid (CES) with controls and equipment necessary to provide varied temperature environments inside the ITC. Sample temperature requirements within (ITC) are –45 Deg F (+/- 3 Deg. F) to 180 Deg F (+/- 3 Deg F).

The test chamber air temperature is controlled with a single, programmable controller. Cooling of the circulating air in the test chamber is accomplished by using (2) separate refrigeration systems, each using a direct expansion vapor compression cycle with air-cooled condensers.

The CTC operates without degraded performance in ambient conditions of:
  • Dry bulb air temperatures between 0 Deg F with no solar radiation input, and 110 Deg F with a peak solar radiation intensity of 355 Btu per hour per square foot.
  • Altitude of 4000 feet above sea level.
  • Sand and dust storms with constant 35 miles per hour, wind gusts to 75 miles per hour, for up to 12 hours.
  • Rainfalls of 3 inches per hour for up to 4 hours with wind gusts to 75 miles per hour.
