TESCOR INSTALLS HUMAN PERFORMANCE TESTING CHAMBER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON

Warminster, PA, March 2005-- Tescor has installed a 12’ by 12’ by 9’ custom walk-in Environmental Room at the University of Oregon for the Department of Human Physiology for use in state-of-the-art experiments. The system has been designed to handle expected heat loads which would include two exercising individuals, two standing observers and equipment heat loads of up to 3,000 Watts. The space contains infrared lighting to simulate sunlight and the environmental temperature controls range from -10°C to 50°C with stability of +/-0.2°C. Relative humidity is maintained at the humidity measurement sensor and ranges from 20% to 95% RH as limited by 4°C dewpoint, a stability factor of +/- 2%.

A synchronous motor-driven circular chart recorder continuously indicates control conditions within the room using a Honeywell 12” Tru-line circular chart, 3 channel input, 7 days per revolution, electronic sensing, calibrated in °C. Inside the room is a red “mushroom head” Panic Alarm as an added safety feature.

The refrigeration system consists of a single-stage, air-cooled condensing unit located away from the room which eliminates noise and vibration factors, and allows personnel to work within the room and the surrounding area in comfort.

This chamber was first assembled and tested in Tescor’s 24,000 square foot facility in Warminster, Pennsylvania before being disassembled and shipped to Oregon. Tescor’s factory-trained technicians then set-up the room at its final location, assembled all subsystems, connected all refrigeration piping and electrical wiring, installed fixtures and field tested the chamber.

Although the University of Oregon opted for a full turn-key installation, start-up and commissioning, Tescor also offers the option of Factory Supervision of installation.
